Letitia James Faces Criminal Financial Fraud Indictment
A federal grand jury has charged the New York attorney general for financial misconduct this past Thursday, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The US attorney for the eastern district of Virginia directly submitted the case to the grand jury on Thursday, the person said.
Federal prosecutors seldom present to such panels.
Halligan was appointed in the role the previous month after Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction regarding the progress of investigations against his rivals.
The move is the president’s latest effort to weaponize federal justice authorities to penalize political rivals.
It comes 14 days following Halligan secured charges involving Comey.
Career prosecutors drafted a memorandum regarding that situation outlining the reasons charges were not justified.
Comey entered a not guilty plea recently.
