Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side just half a year after starting insulting chants directed at their manager, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a agreement joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year career at Elland Road concluded amicably this past summer.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead abusive songs about Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the one-cap England player will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Past History Between the Striker & the Manager
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Moving Forward
All appears to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Challenges
Bamford made 18 games for Leeds last season however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
